Only in Florida: a man survives an alligator bite, then gets fatally shot by deputies after attempting to seize a police firearm. This wild chain of events unfolded on Memorial Day in Polk County, leaving residents and authorities stunned.

On May 26, 2025, 42-year-old Timothy Schulz was reported acting erratically at a RaceTrac gas station in Lakeland, Florida.
Deputies searched for him but couldn't locate him initially.
Later that morning, residents spotted Schulz swimming in an alligator-infested lake. Witnesses attempted to assist him, but he refused help and even growled at one person.
Schulz emerged from the lake with an apparent alligator bite on his arm, armed himself with garden shears from a nearby yard, and attempted to break into a vehicle using a brick.
When deputies arrived, Schulz charged at them with the shears. They deployed tasers twice, but he remained aggressive.
Schulz then entered a running patrol vehicle and tried to access a firearm. At that point, deputies shot and killed him.
