You’d think Trump’s own party would be riding with him on a bill that includes tax cuts and stricter immigration policy — but nope. Conservative Republicans just blocked the very thing they’ve been preaching about for years. Let’s break down why.

Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” — a massive package combining tax breaks, spending priorities, and immigration reforms — made it out of committee but got blocked before it could reach a full House vote.

But a group of conservative Republicans refused to back it, arguing it wasn’t fiscally responsible. They’re concerned it could balloon the national debt by trillions — up to $7.75T by 2035, according to watchdog estimates.

This shows a deep fracture within the GOP. Even with Trump’s backing, hardline Republicans are drawing a line on government spending — even when it’s tied to Trump’s agenda. It also proves that “America First” isn't a one-size-fits-all strategy, especially when dollars and deficits are on the line.

The GOP infighting could cost Trump leverage going into 2025. If they can’t unify around tax cuts and border control — two of their biggest talking points — it raises real questions about what they’re actually willing to fight for… and what they're just using for campaign clout.
